School letter from 24.03.2025

Dear parents,

With this letter I would like to inform you about an important change at our school. Unfortunately, we have to inform you that the bonus program that has supported us in the past is no longer available. Due to a change in criteria, we are no longer part of this program. In the last school year, the exemption of teaching materials was decisive for eligibility for the bonus program; now it is the school type.

Due to the discontinuation of the bonus program , we are having difficulties continuing to finance the FlexModules (AGs), which are led by freelancers. However, the flex modules offered by teachers and volunteers are not affected by this.

Despite this challenge, I am pleased to inform you that we have found an alternative source of funding. As part of the school trial so-called “FlexGanztag”, we have received a budget with which we can continue to finance the honorary staff.

Please note that the Senate School Administration is involved in the allocation process. Therefore, there may be a short interruption of the FlexModules before we can resume the course offer. I will of course keep you up to date and inform you as soon as I have any news.

Thank you for your understanding and support. Together we will overcome this challenge and continue to create exciting offers for our children.

Since March 3, colleagues at the Mierendorff School have been implementing the reading band model in every class. This means that our pupils practise and train their reading skills in class for 20 minutes a day on three to four days a week. The trial phase initially lasts six weeks. An interim assessment is then made in order to continue so-called “Leseband” under adapted conditions.

On Friday, March 21, we had a four-hour fire safety inspection. Everything was checked and we still have a few small corrections to make. On the whole, however, we are in a very good position in terms of fire safety.

By the end of March, the Youth Welfare Office should have completely moved into the new building, which we are delighted about. Even though the exterior of the extension is not yet finished, the premises are fully functional. The façade and the exterior design of the new building will be completed during the course of the year.

In the long term, classrooms and specialist rooms are to be created from the vacated premises.

Best regards
Andreas Schnelle
