Dear parents,
With this letter I would like to inform you about current and future events in our school.
Cleanliness in our school
For several weeks, my caretaker and I have been busy with the cleaning services of the cleaning service at the school. Our staff and I are very dissatisfied with the cleaning of the school. The premises are heavily soiled. In addition to the normal contamination from street dirt that sticks to the students’ shoes and remains on the carpet, we also find banana peels, apple scraps and numerous packaging that are carelessly thrown on the floor.
It might seem like the cleaning service is cleaning up the dirt on a regular basis, but that’s not the case. The district has contractually agreed cleaning intervals with the cleaning company: In one week, vacuuming is done on three days and in the next on two days. You can imagine that this form of cleaning is not enough. The garbage from the buckets should be removed daily. The toilets should also be cleaned daily.
Since the regular cleaning does not meet the terms of the contract, the caretaker and I are regularly busy writing reports to complain about the cleaning performance. Unfortunately, the toilets are also affected. The boys’ toilets in particular are in a questionable condition and smell unpleasant. In the urinals there are cups and food leftovers. Disposable towels are scattered on the floor.
In order to keep our school clean, we not only need a functioning cleaning service, but also students who actively contribute to ensuring that our school remains a clean environment. It should be a place where everyone feels comfortable. Cleanliness and hygiene are of great importance.
Therefore, I ask you to talk to your child about how he or she can contribute to cleanliness himself. This includes, for example, throwing waste such as sharpener residues, packaging and food scraps into the appropriate trash cans. The toilets should also be left in such a way that they can be used by other students after their own use. Soiling should be reported immediately to the caretaker.
My caretaker and I are working together with facility management and cleaners to improve cleanliness at our school. Your support is of great importance so that we can create a place where we all feel comfortable.
Mierie Show and “Market of Opportunities”
Our first Mierie show was a great success! Some of our students have shown with their performances what they have learned in the FlexModules (AGs). Our educators and some teachers have also contributed to this great success. Our first school newspaper with a circulation of 60 copies was sold out after only 10 minutes. Many thanks to the newspaper team!
On Tuesday, January 22, the “Market of Opportunities” will take place, where our students can choose their own module from the FlexModules (AG) offered. We can guarantee that your child will have a wish fulfilled. In the case of courses in high demand, we have to draw lots. Your child will show you his choice and together you will decide whether this choice can be realized in this way.
Training on 18 February 2025
On 18 February, all colleagues will take part in a training course to increase reading skills and introduce the reading volume. Lessons and supervision end after the 4th period or after lunch. However, if you would like emergency care, please inform us in writing with the letter from your reference teacher. The corresponding letter was already distributed at the school last week.
Last day of school before the winter holidays
There are two days in the school year when lessons end after the third period. These days are always the days on which the students receive their certificates: the last day before the winter holidays and the last day before the summer holidays. If you still need care, as agreed at the beginning of the semester, please inform your reference teacher.
I wish you and your child a happy winter holiday!
Best regards,
Andreas Schnelle
