“I come to you today to save your life!” With these words, Mr. Bosse from the VSBB (Traffic Safety Berlin-Brandenburg) greeted the students of class 4b on May 31, 2024, bringing his 12-ton, 10-meter-long and 4-meter-high truck.
But why do we need a “lifesaver”? Easy! Mr. Bosse explained to the children once again about the dangers of the “blind spot“. The kids were already well acquainted with the theory, because the “blind spot” was a topic in bicycle training in science lessons. But to be able to experience or check for yourself when a truck driver does not see someone even though the person is there was remarkable.
All children were allowed to climb into the driver’s seat… And this one was really high up. The children were able to see for themselves what they DID NOT see!
Mr. Bosse reported that since the beginning of 2024, 6 cyclists have already lost their lives in road traffic in Berlin – 4 of them due to the danger of the “blind spot”. Among them was a 9-year-old girl, i.e. a child who was (almost) the same age as the children of 4b.
This was a great and important project in which our school participated. Of course, the students of the other two 4th grades also benefited from this transport project. Only those who know their way around can act correctly!
