From the 2024/25 school year, we will start the school trial so-called “FlexGanztag”. There are many questions about this project, which we will answer below.
General information
What exactly is the “so-called “FlexGanztag”” or the “flex model”?
so-called “FlexGanztag” is a form of tied all-day care in which parents can decide together with their child when the care and support at school ends. Care can end either at 2:30 pm or 4:00 pm.
What is the aim of the “FlexGanztag”?
The so-called “FlexGanztag” increases flexibility in everyday school and family life for our pupils and their families without giving up the advantages of a tied all-day school. At the same time, the quality of the educational offers in the afternoon within the framework of the work groups (educational offers) is increased.
For how long will the flex model be implemented at Mierendorff Primary School?
The pilot project “so-called “FlexGanztag”” will start in the new school year 2024/2025 and will initially be implemented for 3 years. It is a test phase that will be accompanied by a team from the FU Berlin, among others, with regular evaluation.
Information on pick-up and discharge times
What are the pick-up and drop-off times at “so-called “FlexGanztag””? Are these fixed times?
Every weekday from Monday to Friday, you can choose between two times when your child leaves school: 2:30 pm or 4:00 pm. These are fixed times and not a time corridor. Dismissal times may vary during the week: For example, your child can leave at 2:30 pm on Monday, 4:00 pm on Tuesday, 2:30 pm on Wednesday, etc.
How long do I set the pick-up and drop-off times for each day of the week?
They determine the dismissal times for each weekday at the beginning of the school year for one semester. Adjustments can be made for the next semester.
How will the daily routine change with the introduction of the Flex full day at the Mierendorff School?
The so-called “FlexGanztag” consists of core time and the flex module. In the core time between 8:00 a.m. and 2:30 p.m., lessons alternate with times of relaxation (breaks, lunch provision and pupil task times). In future, there will be an additional (second) break in the courtyard. The so-called FlexModule begins at 2:30 pm.
Can I continue to pick up my child on Fridays at 2 pm?
No, the so-called “FlexGanztag” ends at either 14:30 or 16:00.
What happens if I don’t pick up my child on time?
In this case, your child will be looked after as part of the FlexModule or in the late shift.
Will early or late care change?
No, this will continue to take place if there is a corresponding need for care and your supplementary contract.
Information on the school organization
What is the FlexModule?
The time between 14:30 and 16:00 is known as the flex module. During this time, pupils can choose between the following activities:
- Special AGs (educational programs) offered by teachers, teachers, external and volunteer partners, e.g. on the topics of IT, robotics, chess, music, artistic design, mathematics, sports or natural sciences
- Self-determined leisure activities such as playing soccer, handicrafts, games
- Visit to the “study room” to complete school tasks
- Learning support (if required)
Can my child take part in an AG if he/she leaves school at 2:30 pm?
The main focus of the special educational offers (AGs) in the Flex module takes place between 2:30 pm and 4:00 pm. In exceptional cases, these can also be held before 2:30 p.m. in the core time for the smaller class levels. The team of teachers will inform you about the specific offer in the current semester.
Are there AGs every day?
In the current planning phase of the Flex all-day program, offers are to take place every day.
Can my child also take part in learning support?
Yes, but the learning support courses must be scheduled with Intellego in the first two weeks. It is no longer possible to start in the current school year.
Will my child get enough lessons if he/she leaves at 2:30 pm?
We have adapted the daily schedule so that your child has enough time for learning, relaxation and lunch.
